“Wolf. With sharp teeth and a powerful jaw, a wolf can pull meat right from the bone. Then it can use its long tongue to lick itself clean.”
Talk about fold outs! This book outdoes the first Life Size Zoo book with three huge four page spreads to show this new set of twenty animals from the Tokyo Ueno Zoo. End pages give a thumbnail photo of the animal and some quick statistics. Inside, the first spread provides a map that traces the location of the real animals within the zoo. Then the fun begins.
Short text descriptions of the animal and its behavior complement the life-sized image of each animal. The side bar along the right gives more detail about that animal and invites the reader to look for specific characteristics. I especially thought the wombat was endearing. The lion, with a four page sized face, is stunning, as is the hairs and follicles close-up of the hippo. The facts sidebars help sustain interest in learning more about each animal. Kids are sure to love this sequel, as well as the new Life Size Aquarium in the series.
